Owning a BMW in Ukraine is a unique form of automotive art. On this day, July 20, exactly 108 years ago, the brand Bayerisch Motoren Werke AG (BMW) was registered, formed by two aviation engine enterprises.
After the end of World War I, the Versailles Treaty prohibited Germany from producing aviation engines. This forced BMW, which was then a manufacturer of aviation engines, to completely reorient itself. The company began producing brakes for trains and later motorcycle engines, which allowed it to survive and lay the foundation for future success.
The first car released under the BMW brand in 1928 was not its own design, but a licensed copy of the British car Austin 7. This car, named Dixi 3/15, helped BMW enter the automotive market before the company began creating its own unique models.
In the post-World War II period, when the German economy was devastated, BMW was forced to seek unconventional ways of survival. For some Time, the company produced dishes and kitchenware to maintain production capacity and provide jobs.
BMW was one of the first automotive companies to actively explore alternative fuel sources. Back in 1979, in collaboration with the German Aerospace Center, BMW developed its first experimental hydrogen fuel vehicle based on the BMW 520/4 model.
