U.S. President Joe Biden urged Congress to allocate an additional $24 billion to strengthen military support for Ukraine, reports The New York Post.
The White House Office of Management and Budget proposed to include this financial assistance in the package of measures to avoid a funding halt by the next presidential administration, reports Ukrainska Pravda.
In total, $24 billion, of which $8 billion will be used to finance contracts with American companies for supplying arms to Ukraine, while $16 billion will go to replenish the U.S. military arsenal.
Some Republicans have already expressed their disagreement with this move and sharply criticized it.
'Joe Biden just gave away $4.7 billion of taxpayers' money, unilaterally 'forgiving' loans to Ukraine. Congress should not give him a free gift to further sabotage President Trump's peace negotiations on the way out the door. Any demands by Biden for funding must be rejected,' wrote Senator Mike Lee of Utah on social media platform X.
