NATO Secretary General: Russia is a long-term threat to the Alliance.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that the countries of the European Union, which are allies of the United States, consider Russia a 'long-term threat.' He made this statement after a meeting with President Donald Trump at the White House.
Rutte said, 'We all agree in NATO that Russia poses a threat to NATO territory and the entire Euro-Atlantic region.' He also noted that proposals for Russia regarding a peaceful resolution to the situation in Ukraine are on the table.
Mark Rutte emphasized, 'Ukrainians are playing fair, and now the initiative is in Russia's court.'
However, he declined to reveal details of possible steps from Russia and Ukraine, as this could negatively impact peace negotiations.
Mark Rutte also discussed the issue of NATO spending, as Donald Trump emphasized that European countries are not meeting their financial obligations and do not allocate enough of their GDP to defense. He demanded higher spending for these purposes. Rutte agreed with him, stating that this share should be significantly higher than 2%.'
He added, 'Clearly, with 2% we will not be able to protect NATO territory.'
The statements of NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte after the meeting with US President Donald Trump confirm the unity of views in NATO regarding Russia and alliance spending. NATO unanimously considers Russia a long-term threat, which concerns not only NATO territory but also the entire Euro-Atlantic region. Rutte supports Trump regarding NATO spending and believes that defense requires greater financial efforts. These statements reflect a shared understanding of the problems and needs of the alliance, as well as emphasize the necessity of a peaceful resolution of the conflict with Russia in the context of Ukraine. NATO continues to negotiate with the Russian side but does not disclose details regarding possible actions and services.
