The largest province in Canada completely bans mobile phones in schools.

The Minister of Education of Quebec, Bernard Drainville, announced a ban on the use of mobile phones and other electronic devices in all schools in the province. This decision was made due to numerous conflicts and incidents of violence that occurred because of these devices, even during lessons. The ban will apply to both public and private schools and will take effect from the next academic year. Specifically, each school will decide how this rule will be enforced. Currently, about 400 schools in Quebec have already banned the use of mobile phones. In addition, other measures are being introduced to improve 'civilized behavior' in schools, including formalizing respectful attitudes in school codes of conduct and having them signed by parents.
A similar ban on the use of mobile phones has come into effect in the Netherlands. The Ministry of Education of that country believes that mobile phones hinder students' ability to concentrate on their studies and distract them from it.
