New Traffic Rules in the EU: What Ukrainian Drivers Need to Know.

Ukrainian drivers traveling in the EU may incur hefty fines due to various traffic regulations. Most European countries impose fines even for minor speeding violations. For example, in Germany, exceeding the speed limit by 10 km/h in a city can cost you a 30 euro fine, while exceeding it by 70 km/h can lead to an 800 euro fine and a loss of driving rights for 3 months. In Austria, fines for exceeding the limit by 20 km/h range from 30 to 60 euros, while going 40 km/h over can cost from 140 euros with possible license suspension. There are countries with even stricter alcohol rules, such as Romania and Hungary, where there is a zero tolerance policy for alcohol, similar to Western countries. Additionally, some countries impose large fines and revoke driving rights for a long period for minor speeding, like the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Attention must also be paid to the technical condition of the vehicle. In some countries such as Romania, Slovenia, and Finland, winter tires are mandatory from November 1 to March 31, and not having them can result in fines ranging from 60 to 5000 euros. Furthermore, in EU countries, carrying an emergency sign and reflective vest is required, and lacking them can cost you a fine ranging from 50 to 120 euros. There are also environmental zones in the European Union, and entering them requires a corresponding sticker. In the UK, France, and Germany, entering without a sticker incurs a fine of 80 to 350 euros.
