President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky had a telephone conversation with the newly elected Federal Chancellor of Germany Friedrich Merz. During the call, they discussed the prospects of bilateral cooperation and support for Ukraine.
Zelensky noted that he hopes for Germany's key role in supporting Ukraine. They discussed the potential for Ukrainian-German cooperation and agreed on implementing specific proposals to deepen the partnership.
'We expect that Germany will continue to play one of the key roles in supporting Ukraine, to protect our people now and to restore the country after the end of the war,' emphasized Zelensky.
The parties also paid attention to diplomatic efforts to achieve a fair and lasting peace. They noted that they will work together on even more meaningful diplomacy.
'It was important to hear this. We also talked about how to make diplomacy even more meaningful. We will work together for a dignified peace,' stressed the Ukrainian president.
Efforts to Secure Support for Ukraine from Germany and the EU
In addition, earlier Zelensky also reported on a conversation with President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen. He noted that there is unwavering support for Ukraine from the European Union.
Actions for Ukraine's accession to the EU and diplomatic efforts to establish a fair peace were discussed. Zelensky expressed gratitude for the support in protecting the lives of Ukrainians and international law.
