According to the latest data, the death toll has risen to more than 200 people, and over 200 people remain missing. Rescue teams continue to work amid severe infrastructure damage, including about 450 roads closed due to flooding and other hurricane effects.
To date, about 408 thousand people remain without electricity, although power has been restored for over 500 thousand customers. The state has deployed 26 shelters providing temporary refuge for more than 1.2 thousand people. U.S. President Joe Biden has already declared a state of emergency in 25 counties of North Carolina, allowing residents affected by the disaster to receive assistance from FEMA.
