Driver charged in deadly bus accident involving Ukrainian children

In France, the driver of the bus transporting Ukrainian children who was involved in a deadly accident has been charged, reports La Figaro. The accident occurred on June 14 in the Sarthe department. Four people died, and the bus was carrying Ukrainian teenagers as part of a school trip, the Paris prosecutor's office reported.

Both drivers were arrested after the accident. They had no alcohol or drugs in their system. However, the driver who was behind the wheel during the accident was charged with involuntary manslaughter and causing injuries through negligence.

This driver is currently prohibited from driving and is required to appear before investigators when summoned. He is under judicial supervision (not in custody, but under investigation supervision).

The second driver, who was not driving, was released on Saturday. The case is being investigated by a special department of the Paris prosecutor's office.

Reaction of the President of Ukraine

Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky informed: «Horrific news about the tragic bus accident in France, in which many Ukrainians, including children, were affected. They were returning from an exchange program with a French lycée in Brittany», – wrote the president.

Four adults died, three of them were Ukrainian citizens. Two others are in serious condition, and French medics are fighting for their lives. The rest of the children have minor to moderate injuries, and they are receiving the necessary assistance.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has already sent a team of diplomats and consuls to the scene to provide support to citizens and maintain contact with the families of the victims and French authorities.

During the deadly bus accident in France, the driver was charged with involuntary manslaughter and causing injuries through negligence. The President of Ukraine expressed condolences and provided assistance by sending a team of diplomats to the scene.
