Life After Loss: How 86-Year-Old Canadian Valerie Simpson Overcame Loneliness and Became a Traveler
After her husband's death, Valerie Simpson chose not to remain in solitude but decided to change her life. Over the last 20 years, she has become an active traveler, visiting many countries and inspiring thousands of people. Traveling has become a way for her to heal and find answers to her loss.
The thirst for travel struck Valerie suddenly after three years of mourning. Since then, she has been traveling alone, as she loves her independence. Since 2014, she has visited Europe, Asia, Africa, and North America, discovering the temples of Thailand, the markets of Morocco, and the picturesque shores of Italy.
'I love the food, I love the atmosphere, I love this country, it is very diverse. I love the Italians,' Valerie shared her impressions.
Despite her age, the woman does not plan to stop traveling. Even physical limitations that only allow her to descend stairs with difficulty or require handrails do not stop her.
In her travels, Valerie finds new friends among other tourists but has also had to say goodbye to some during their shared trips.
The Positive Impact of Travel on Health
Traveling to other countries not only broadens one's horizons but also positively impacts health. Trips abroad improve appearance, stimulate stress response, boost immunity and metabolism. They are an important component of a healthy lifestyle, slowing the aging processes of the body.
