Ukraine Overpaid for Gas in Winter: Expert Shocked with Details.

Ukraine had to buy imported gas at a high price during winter. This happened because the gas reserves in Ukrainian underground storage facilities were very low. There was not enough gas, and therefore it had to be purchased instead of buying it in summer at a lower price. This was stated by the director of energy programs at the Razumkov Center, Volodymyr Omelychenko.
Volodymyr Omelychenko noted that the government miscalculated the amount of gas in the underground storage facilities. As a result, there was practically no gas left in the underground storage. This led to the necessity of buying expensive imported gas instead of purchasing it in summer at a lower price. Volodymyr Omelychenko believes that such an approach is incorrect.

Moreover, according to Volodymyr Omelychenko, the situation was complicated by attacks on gas production infrastructure.
The expert explained that when gas production decreased, the Ukrainian government had to make a difficult choice: take more gas from underground storage (but there was not enough) or import gas. However, importing gas is very expensive.
