Spring frosts damaged half of the winter crops in Kherson region

According to the head of the Association of Farmers and Private Landowners of Kherson region, Oleksandr Hordienko, spring frosts have negatively impacted the sowing of winter crops in the right bank part of Kherson region. He noted that in their farm, half of the sown areas of winter crops are affected.

"In spring, there were frosts, though minor, but this affected the winter crops. Currently, in our farm, the winter crops are affected on 50% of the sown areas. In addition to the spring frosts, we are also facing drought. Throughout Ukraine, there has been precipitation, but in Kherson region, as always, the rains have passed by, and there was practically no precipitation. This also affects the winter crops," emphasized Hordienko.

Oleksandr Hordienko also noted that in case of poor mathematics and lack of means, farmers have to take into account the unfavorable weather conditions. Additionally, the farmer mentioned that farmers in Kherson region have to work despite the difficult security situation.

"Today, the situation for work in Kherson region is very complicated. Without a shotgun, without a ten-round rifle, which can knock down drones, it is unrealistic to go out, because it is a risk. And the risk, as practice has shown, ends very badly 100% of the Time," emphasized Hordienko.

The farmer also expressed the opinion that farmers from frontline territories need additional benefits due to danger and lack of personnel. At the same time, the government made a decision to expand the opportunities for farmers regarding the construction of vegetable storage facilities.

Material analysis: weather conditions significantly affect agricultural enterprises and their successful operation. Additional problems, such as security threats, can also complicate the situation for farmers and agrarians. The government's decision to provide benefits and assistance to agriculture can be an important step in improving the situation in the sector.
