Water by schedule: debts of water utilities threaten mass disruptions in Ukrainian cities.

The water supply crisis has intensified in Ukrainian cities
According to reports, regional water utilities in some regional centers of Ukraine plan to implement an hourly service schedule due to significant debts and insufficient funding. This information was conveyed by the head of the Union of Consumers of Communal Services of Ukraine, Oleg Popenko.
In the cities of Rivne and Poltava, water companies plan to switch to an hourly water supply regime due to financial difficulties and debts for electricity. This may have negative consequences for other cities in the country in similar situations.
'At the beginning of April, Rivneoblvodokanal announced that they are transitioning to hourly service provision. This caused a very serious reaction throughout Ukraine. The matter reached the Office of the President, after which local authorities were forced to urgently address the problem,'- Popenko stated.
Popenko also noted that after resolving the situation in Rivne, similar problems arose in Poltava due to lack of funding. In both cities, water tariffs increased significantly, but the quality of services remained unsatisfactory.
Analysis of the water supply situation
According to an expert, the crisis situation with water supply in a number of Ukrainian cities is systemic due to large debts of water utilities, insufficient funding, and lack of modernization. The hourly service regime may cause serious problems for residents and reach a critical level.
It is important to remember that water utilities are strategic facilities, and their failure can lead to a disaster in cities. It is necessary to seek a quick and effective solution to avoid similar problems in the future.
