The cost of eggs in the USA has risen by 70% compared to last year. Some grocery stores have started to limit the number of eggs that can be purchased. The National Restaurant Association of the USA notes that this problem is particularly felt by dining establishments. Even the Waffle House chain was forced to introduce a temporary surcharge of 50 cents for each egg due to product shortages.
Even criminals have shown interest in the egg shortage. In Pennsylvania, 100,000 eggs worth $40,000 were stolen from a truck transporting groceries.
