Zelensky introduced new sanctions against individuals involved in financing the Russian Federation and Russian mafias

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, announced the introduction of new sanctions against individuals who contributed to the financing of Russian terrorist activities and other financial machinations benefiting Russia. It was also noted that the categories of subjects subjected to these restrictions include propagandists who bolster Russia's position in Ukraine, as well as representatives of Russian mafia groups that supported the Putin regime, aimed at strengthening Ukraine's national security.

“Today - a few sanction packages. The first - against Russian individuals involved in funding Russian terrorist activities, financial machinations, and schemes to circumvent sanctions in favor of the Russian Federation...”

“The second package - is propagandists who, through their lies, amplify Russian strikes on Ukraine...”

“And the third sanction package - against representatives of Russian mafia groups, who significantly aided the establishment of the Putin regime and are still connected to it,” Zelensky explained.

It is also reported that the government of Ukraine is actively working on linking Ukrainian sanctions with international sanction regimes, particularly in the European Union and other key global jurisdictions.

Previous sanctions and objects of restrictions

According to preliminary information, on May 25, President Volodymyr Zelensky imposed personal sanctions against certain Russian figures. Among the restricted individuals were Russian businessmen such as Gennady Petrov, Sergey Mikhailov, and Sergey Lalakin.

Gennady Petrov was characterized as a “Petersburg bandit” who collaborated with Vladimir Putin's partners back in the 1990s. Sergey Lalakin was regarded as the leader of the “Podil organized crime group”.
